The Death of Console and PC Gaming?

The Death of Console and PC Gaming?

A few of the mobile game developers claim that mobile devices will cause consoles, like the PS3 and the XBOX, to die.  I believe this is, sadly, somewhat true but they aren’t just gonna disappear or “die” they just need a fancy, new, innovative upgrade to boost their sales.  Even though PC and console games are obviously better, most people spend most of their time on mobile devices causing them to lose interest in their consoles or PCs.  In my opinion, most mobile games are too simple and arcade-like.  I think console and PC games are more immersive and interactive.

Apple’s iOS devices are the most common mobile devices because of their wide variety of games.  Over 200 million iOS devices have been sold to date when only 94.97 million Wiis, 62 million PS3s and 65.8 million XBOX consoles have been sold.  These 200 million devices are just Apple’s iOS.  Over 300,000 Android devices are sold per day and all of the Nintendo DS’s models combined have sold 151.06 million devices up to date.  All this is evidence showing that people are forgetting consoles and PC games and focusing on mobile games like Angry Birds, Temple Run and Fruit Ninja.

Even though mobile devices are more popular, PCs and consoles are built to play games.  Some of them might be bulkier and noisier but they still provide better gameplay than arcade style games that have only one objective (shooting pigs with explosive birds or running away from some monkeys while collecting coins).  Console and PC games provide more immersive games that have multiple paths and obstacles to the end.  When I say that consoles and PCs are built for games I mean that they are capable of having better graphics, longer stories and larger, more complex games.

So, in my opinion, console and PC gaming is not dying.  They are just becoming slightly less popular.  Mobile devices’ cool new touch screens and fancy cameras are making people less interested in consoles that have been around for over 5 years and more interested in the newer portable games.  Consoles/PCs just need that fancy, new thing that will catch people’s attention again.  In conclusion, consoles and PCs (the superior devices) will rise again.  They just need a boost.
